Japan Reaffirms the Ainu as Indigenous After Conservative Leader Questions Their Status

Japan’s government reiterated that the Ainu are an indigenous people after a Conservative Party leader challenged their status. Critics say, however, existing laws still fall short of adequately protecting Ainu rights.
