Japan’s Rice Shortage Has Reversed Into a Record Glut

Japan’s private rice inventory reached a record 2.43 million tons in June, well above the normal 1.8–2 million tons. The surplus marks a sharp reversal from the shortage two years ago, when stores rationed rice and the government released emergency reserves.
