Osaka High Court Rules Japan’s koseki System Violates Non-Binary Constitutional Rights
Japan’s Osaka High Court ruled that the koseki family registry requirement to be classified as either “son” or “daughter” violates the constitutional rights of non-binary people. The court, however, stopped short of ordering change and left the matter to the legislature, similar to past marriage equality rulings.
